E-Cigarette Safety in the Hands of the User

E-Cigarette Safety in the Hands of the User

E-cig Battery

Lexington, Kentucky (PRWEB) March 28, 2012

The recent incident in Niceville, Florida involving an explosion of an electronic cigarette battery has brought a high level of attention to their safety. There has been concern over the type of product and battery that caused the explosion. The guide’s introduction lays out the implications of the incident, a little more than one month ago:

“Sensationalism aside, the fact remains we don’t know what event or series of events lead up to this catastrophic failure. Without knowing more, there really isn’t any more to say about this incident. What we can discuss, however, is what we can do, as e-cig users to make sure this kind of thing doesn’t happen to us.”

The new guide released intends to inform e-cig users that with the proper precautions, the risk associated with fire or explosion from any electronic cigarette battery can be greatly reduced, making these devices as safe or safer than battery powered devices used by millions every day.

Any product with a high energy battery, from a cell phone to a laptop carries some level of risk for that battery to catch fire or explode. Electronic cigarettes are no different. And like other battery powered devices, manufacturers of all types of e-cigarettes have designed them to be safe when used properly. So staying safe with e-cig batteries isn’t difficult or complicated, the safety guide explains, it only requires diligence and care on the part of the user to ensure that they’re using their device safely.

So what do e-cig users need to look out for? When using a removable battery in an e-cig mod, it’s very important to always use the battery recommended by the manufacturer. The manufacturers of these devices have taken time and care to properly test them and determine which batteries are safest to use. The money to be saved on a cheaper or different battery simply isn’t worth the risk. It’s also important to use batteries with a proper C-Rating, which determines how much power a battery can discharge. This is critical when using “stacked” batteries or multiple batteries in a series inside an e-cigarette mod.

The safety guide includes a list of recommended C-Ratings for batteries, as well as clear definitions of battery types and important concepts to understand about your e-cigarette. There’s certainly much more to know about using the proper battery for an e-cig mod, so be sure to check out the full guide to electronic cigarette battery safety.

And though smaller e-cigs with self-contained batteries are less powerful than most removable batteries and carry less risk for a catastrophic explosion, there is still a level of risk and a safety concern. These devices are different from e-cig mods but the idea is the same- always follow manufacturer guidelines and instructions. Nearly all self-contained e-cig batteries have built in protections for safety, but there are still steps that must be taken on the part of the user. Always use the charger recommended by the brand or manufacturer. Using the wrong charger for a battery is very dangerous- it creates a risk for fire, meltdown and even explosion.

The guide concludes by reminding the reader that electronic cigarettes are no more dangerous than cellphones, laptops or even electric toothbrushes. Most manufacturers of e-cigs, regardless of type, have tested and designed their devices for safety when used properly. Users of electronic cigarettes and vapers- be educated and stay safe. Make sure to read the Ecig Advanced Guide to Electronic Cigarette Battery Safety.

SeventyK Launches the Stop A Doc Video Contest to Improve Survival Rates for Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Patients

SeventyK Launches the Stop A Doc Video Contest to Improve Survival Rates for Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Patients

Carey Moyer, AYA Cancer Survivor

Orange, CA (PRWEB) August 30, 2011

Meet Carey Moyer. “I work at a place called ‘The Happiest Place on Earth’, Disneyland, the place ‘where dreams come true’. But 18 months ago my own dreams came to a sudden stop.” Carey is a 32-year-old project manager at Disneyland; she is also a breast cancer survivor and part of the adolescent and young adult cancer segment known as AYA. “I had just gotten married, then blammo – stage three breast cancer. Now the mastectomy, chemo and radiation are behind me. I want to empower other young adults with the awareness to know their own bodies, so they can tell when something subtle is wrong, and have the confidence to let their doctors know about it.”

Seventy thousand Americans aged 15 to 39 years old are diagnosed with cancer every year. “I wish someone had done Stop A Doc on my doctors. The first doctor to examine me said, ‘It’s a lump but it’s not cancer – you’re only 31.’ Then I met Dr. Leonard Sender. His diagnosis probably saved my life,” says Moyer. Misdiagnosis is a significant problem with AYA cancers. Patients have special needs and challenges including early diagnosis and fertility preservation.

“For over two decades the survival rates for adolescent and young adult cancer patients has stayed the same. SeventyK is fighting to change that,” says Dr. Leonard Sender, Founder of SeventyK and Medical Director of the Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Program in the Hyundai Cancer Institute at CHOC Children’s and UC Irvine’s Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Sender, known as “Lennie” by his patients, has an unflagging passion to better health outcomes for this under-served cancer segment.

How is SeventyK going to improve the survival rates of AYA cancer patients? “Education is the beginning”, says Sender. Moyer agrees. “There are just five things healthcare professionals need to know to understand the basics. And we’re on a mission to educate … creatively, but firmly, on video, and maybe even with a sense of humor, or music, or even dance. We’re speaking up.”

The Stop A Doc campaign features the Stop A Doc video contest. Patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and medical students can enter the contest to win cash prizes. Best videos will be featured on SeventyK.org and become a Stop A Doc public service announcement. Details and official rules are at StopADoc.org.

SeventyK is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit medical charity dedicated to changing the course of AYA cancer. SeventyK has also launched a free wellness network for AYA patients and healthcare professionals – the SeventyK Wellness Network.

Bios:

Leonard Sender, MD, is board certified both in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology with professional interests strongly centered on the diagnosis, treatment, and epidemiology of adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer (patients aged 15 to 39). Dr. Sender is Medical Director of the Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Program in the Hyundai Cancer Institute at Children’s Hospital of Orange County, and UC Irvine’s Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Carey Moyer works as a creative entertainment project manager for the Walt Disney Company at Disneyland. But she first met cancer at the age of nine when her mother was diagnosed with a rare melanoma. A decade later she lost her mom to that cancer. Carey feared that someday she too might have to battle cancer, but never imagined that it would happen so soon. Not long after her marriage, at 31, she was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. Her journey has included fertility treatment, chemotherapy, a mastectomy and radiation. She now shares her story with young adults everywhere. Her goal is to teach that knowing our bodies “in health” can enable early detection – a lifesaver.

Captain Positive Saves the Day in Award-Winning New “Be Happy” Music for Kids CD from the Positively Kids Line of Entertainment Products

Captain Positive Saves the Day in Award-Winning New “Be Happy” Music for Kids CD from the Positively Kids Line of Entertainment Products

Captain Positive: Be Happy music CD

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) December 08, 2011

The Captain Positive Series, part of the Positively Kids line of multi-media entertainment products, teaches children the power of positive thinking; New “Captain Positive: Be Happy” music for kids CD wins Mom’s Best Award and Creative Child Excellence Award.

By adulthood, one in twenty Americans will suffer from depression, according to the CDC. In a culture where negative is the norm and self-doubt pervades, how can parents, educators and other influencers intervene when the young, sponge-like brains they’re molding are still open to positivity? According to Captain Positive, the super-hero of positive thinking in the new line of Positively Kids entertainment products, the answer is to “Be Happy” – and that’s precisely the message behind his new music for kids CD of the same name.

“Captain Positive: Be Happy” CD offers music for kids that empowers plus laughter and kid-friendly affirmations

Utilizing laughter, music and kid-friendly affirmations, Positively Kids seeks to empower children by teaching them to tap their inner strength and embrace life’s challenges. The “Captain Positive: Be Happy” CD reinforces these principles with a fun eclectic musical collection that parents will enjoy and kids will love! As kids laugh, smile and sing along, they will learn that like Captain Positive, they can choose to be happy.

By teaching our children about positive thinking, we are providing them with skills they can use to empower themselves throughout their lives. This CD delivers positive messages and teaches kids coping skills through music, fortifying them with the power of positive thinking. Because each song is different from the others, the CD will entertain parents and engage kids from beginning to end.

“Captain Positive: Be Happy” CD Debuts; Receives Awards And Rave Expert Reviews!

Not only has this exciting and fun musical CD made kids cheer; parenting experts, psychologists and moms across the web and beyond have been singing the praises of “Be Happy” and Positively Kids. Creative Child gave “Be Happy” its 2011 Best Of Excellence award. The Mom’s Best Award also recognized the CD as one of its best mom-tested, mom-approved media products of the year, because, according to one of the judges, “What is the most unique about this product is that all the songs focus on one topic…being positive and happy. It is great for a child to learn this as it can alter their mood and thus behavior.” Another Mom’s Best Judge concurred, “I like that this CD creates a positive mood for kids. It was fun and engaging. My kids age 6 to 10 enjoyed singing along.”

According to Edie Raether, MC, CSP and author or Stop Bullying Now, “Positively Kids has produced musical magic for kids! What a fun way to teach and transform your child’s self-esteem.” Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and founder of Respectrum (Re-Abling the Autism Community) Courtney Olinger agrees, and said about the product, “Positively Kids combines music and message to start early with teaching children how to spot the “sparkling moments” in life.”

About Positively Kids:

Founded in 2010 in San Diego by mom Stacey Crumrine, Positively Kids brings parents, caregivers, and educators many tools that they can give to the precious little minds for maximum positive impact. Positively Kids weaves its “Captain Positive” character, the super-hero of positive thinking, through CDs like the just released “Captain Positive: Be Happy”, the soon to be released “Be Happy” DVD, plus “Captain Positive: Be Calm”, and more, as a means of preparing kids for the years and challenges ahead and arming them with a positive attitude to carry throughout their lives.

With the help of contributors including prominent Neuropsychologists, authors, family coaches, parents, educators and more, Positively Kids has created a culture that permeates all of its entertaining and informative programs and materials. And, although everyone at Positively Kids realizes that the world is not something they can completely control, they do believe that any child, no matter their age, attitude or circumstance, can be taught how to:

Change the world by acting positively

Think with positive self-esteem and confidence

Grow their minds and open up to the opportunities that are presented to them

Be inspired by positive beliefs

Feel healthy inside and out

Have confidence in their decisions

Help others see the benefit of positive thinking

Be motivated off of the good, not the bad

How to have a positive outlook and see the possibilities in life

Divorce Tool Box Founder Audrey Silcox Will Be an Interactive Exhibitor and Featured Speaker at This Weekend’s Divorce Expo in Detroit, Michigan

(PRWEB) March 20, 2012

Divorce Tool Box founder Audrey Silcox, an expert divorce coach who is also certified as a mediator in two state Supreme Courts, will be an interactive exhibitor and speaker at this weekend’s Divorce Expo in Detroit, Michigan. More than fifty top industry experts, along with more than 100 vendors and exhibitors, will gather at the Suburban Collection Showplace on March 24-25, 2012, and both the booth and speech presented by Ms. Silcox are “must-sees.” In her speech, Ms. Silcox will present “Five Steps of Organization to Maintain Control throughout the Divorce Process.”

Says Silcox, “Because emotions are generally at an all-time high during divorce, and concentration while thinking through a decision becomes difficult at best, it is so important to be organized and thoroughly prepared before entering the legal arena. This is how—while juggling many divorce challenges–you can maintain control throughout the divorce process—which is essential to building a future with no regrets.” In her speech, Silcox will cite examples from her 16 years experience about the enormous differences advance preparation would have made in her clients’ emotional and financial outcomes.

The Divorce Expo is being touted as the world’s largest lifestyle event and the first industry-wide event for all professional services concerning separation and divorce for both women and men. Divorce experts will inform and educate attendees who are contemplating divorce as well as those who are already divorced and dealing with post-divorce issues such as co-parenting. Sessions will include topics related to legal, financial, career, health, relationship, and personal well being.

Ms. Silcox will be taking part in the personal well being sessions on Saturday, March 24, 2012. She will share her expertise including interactive activities during her presentation and also at her exhibit booth, where she is eager to meet attendees personally and invite them to register for door prizes to be awarded at the end of each day while sharing with visitors the “tools to build your future with no regrets.”

Ms. Silcox brings her expertise as a divorce expert from working with the judicial system and in private practice since 1996. Silcox, herself a divorced mother of two teenagers, has worked with divorcing couples as a counselor, coach, divorce educator and mediator. A graduate of Auburn University at Montgomery, Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and a M.Ed. degree in counseling, she is a Certified Divorce and Family mediator with credentials from two state Supreme Courts.

Ms. Silcox is the founder of Divorce Tool Box, which helps guide individuals and couples through the emotional and practical considerations of divorce before they incur many hours of legal fees. Silcox acknowledges, “Now as a mother of two teenage daughters, I wish I’d had professional coaching before I went through my own divorce and custody issues. There are certainly some arrangements I would have done differently, and in my work, I’ve certainly seen many examples of the benefits derived from pre-divorce decision-making.” To provide those benefits, Ms. Silcox founded Divorce Tool Box, which offers online and telephone divorce coaching 24/7.

The Divorce Expo is produced by Christine McQueen and Joost Allard. This first-annual event is projected to attract more than 8,000 consumers who will learn from top industry experts from across the U.S. in fields such as legal, financial, career, health, relationships, co-parenting, dating, and personal care. The $ 35 cost of admission for both days includes all seminars, complimentary spa treatments and over 100 exhibits. Tickets can be purchased at The Divorce Expo website or at the door.

Audrey Silcox offers her 16-year expertise through her company, Divorce Tool Box, which provides telephone and online divorce coaching for individuals or couples contemplating or currently undergoing divorce. Custody parenting plans, assets and liabilities, division of property, money matters, along with emotional support are some of the issues she addresses in customized, confidential, and convenient phone sessions to help people make wise decisions before they enter the legal arena. This guidance can help ease a difficult process as well as save countless hours and costs in legal fees, not to mention major regrets down the road. Appointments with Ms. Silcox can be made 24 hours a day by phone at (251)639-5788, or online at http://www.DivorceToolBox.com.
