Zach Wahls, a 19-year-old University of Iowa student spoke about the strength of his family during a public forum on House Joint Resolution 6 in the Iowa House of Representatives. Wahls has two mothers, and came to oppose House Joint Resolution 6 which would end civil unions in Iowa. The fight to to keep marriage equality in Iowa continues, help us support Iowans like Zach. www.oneiowa.org

I’d be proud if he were my son. I think his parents have done an amazing job of raising him. Such an eloquent and engaging argument for why marriage should be the right of every consenting adult.

Just for the record, there is no ‘official’ Christian position against homosexuality, because there is no ‘official’ Christian religion. There isn’t even agreement on birth control and divorce. How can there be, when Christianity is splintered into schisms numbering over 34,000 denominations with hundreds more forming every month? An increasing number now welcome LGBT parishioners with open arms, open hearts and open minds, and many now ordain openly lesbian or gay clergy to the benefit of all.

@911insidejo8 I can appreciate what you’re saying here, however is actually a matter of civil rights and not “gay rights”, and you’re right there probably are more pressing issues in the world today. But I imagine if you were being kept from marrying the person whom you loved, because “society” or your family did not approve and your only recourse was to involve the government/state to protect and enforce your individual rightsI You might do the same.

Not to be a dick, but give up the bible altogether. The bible is not open to personal intrepretation 2 Peter 1:20 and you are not aloud to pick and choose and old testament still applies. Many verses, but one of the strongest is John7:19.
The contridictions are errors because it was written and orally passed down and changed and altered over time and even the original was just a book written by an angry tribe.

Judging Others
1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Thank you Mr. Wahls, that was truly amazing. My partner and I have a five year old son, and one day in the not so distant future I will show this to him. I hope we can help him grow into half the man that you are.

@sugarpie110 I couldn’t agree more. I cannot understand how we can justify this treatment in a nation who only decades ago abolished similar treatment of a different demographic. I don’t agree with it, but I also don’t believe that my own religious and personal beliefs should dictate how others live. I see no problem with allowing gay unions. I won’t say marriage as that decision is up to each individual religion as to who they will allow to be married in their place, but union? Why not.
